BABR Summer 2013 Week #1

Our first week (orientation) has ended. What an amazing week of getting prepared for another summer of camp! We have a lot of new people this summer and we got to know each other better with many team building activities this week. God has blessed me with a great team to work alongside! We also grew in our relationship with God and got to know ourselves better. We had our annual staff camp out in Colorado. It was beautiful weather and beautiful scenery. The snow covered mountains and green hillsides were breathtaking. We had a busy three days. The first day we traveled to our camp at Chris Lake near Durango. I had the privilege of driving one of the vans, and my passengers kept me very much entertained. It was relatively smooth, with a stop to change a blown tire on one of the trailers. We thank God for His protection from further problems. The second day we traveled to Telluride and rode the gondola over the mountain into the town. For a person who is very scared of heights, this was a stretching experience (but well worth it). After spending some time in the town, we headed to Ouray, where I spent the afternoon in the hot springs. At the end of the day, we traveled back to our camp over the million dollar highway. I did not drive, because the drop offs were terrifying and it's best the driver isn't closing their eyes. My faith is increased each year we drive this road. Throughout our time in Colorado we had times of devotion together and alone with God. I was blessed at the end of the week with the opportunity to stay an extra night with one of the leaders, Nanette. We had wonderful times of relaxation, talking about Spiritual things, and spending time laughing and making memories. Now we prepare for the first week of camp, which starts tomorrow. God is going to stretch us beyond what we can do in our own strength, but I am confident that He will give us everything we need to accomplish His plan. I am excited to see previous campers and meet new ones! I am anticipating the awesome things God is going to do in us and through us.  So, the summer adventures begin......

The following is a prayer I read that says exactly what I am praying for this summer:

God, I love You and choose to accept the assignments You place before me with an attitude that reflects the truth that You live in me. I know I won’t do this perfectly, and I admit my inability to do this in my strength. So, I say yes to You today. I say yes to Your desire to invade my natural flesh responses. I say yes to Your forgiveness when I mess up. I say yes to persevering even when I want to give up. I say yes to Your invitation to be obedient even when other paths seem more appealing. I say yes even as my lips desire to utter a thousand times over, ‘I can’t.’ I say yes to loving You more. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
